As dog owners, dog urine in the house and its associated problems are an unavoidable part of having a dog as a pet.
No matter how well behaved and trained a dog is, occasionally and eventually it will make stains on carpet or wood floors.
And of course, its not just the stain, the smell is rather unpleasant I think you would agree.
And if the urine odor and the look of it weren't bad enough, there is some inherent health risk associated with them, especially if children are involved.
Older dogs and puppies are much more likely to mess than other dogs.
There can be many reasons why a dog is urinating inside. From not yet being properly trained, to old age, to a medical condition, such as a bladder infection. And every dog will do it now and then, there really is no way of avoiding this behavior completely.
Dogs will do it because they just waited too long and couldn't get outside fast enough, or simply was being too lazy and couldn't be bothered taking the trip outside (Remember however, if the problem is frequent, that a medical opinion should e sought).
One thing you have probably noticed about dog urine is that it is very stubborn to remove. As it is absorbed into the carpet, it spreads, therefore what is visible to you may be the tip of the iceberg in terms of how large the actual stain is.
There is but one way to treat a dog urine stain, and that is very thoroughly. If even a little bit of it is left, it will continue to leave a bad smell.
So what dog urine removal products should be used?
Firstly, locating all the odors and stains from previous spills is vital. Because a dog will smell his or her previous spills and redo them, thereby "marking their territory" - an instinctual reaction. Also these could still be giving off an odor and need to be taken care of.
A product to display these old stains is an ultraviolet light, also called a "blacklight", which is invisible to you, but reveals pet stains easily. All you need do is turn out the lights and shine this equipment all over, looking for the bright glow of dog pee.
The one I recommend is called the "Spot Spotter". It identifies the source of an odor so that it can be neutralized and removed.
Please click on the link below and do a search for "spot spotter".
Now that the stains have been found, they need to be eradicated. There are many dog urine removal cleaners out there. Some work much better than others. The two I have found that work the best are called "Simple Solution Stain & Odor Remover" and "Nature's Miracle Stain & Odor Remover"
Please click on the imagine below below and type in either "simple solution odor" or "natures miracle odor" to search for the products.
If you would like to attempt to get rid of the dog urine yourself for free, making up the dog urine cleaning solution, then here is the recipe for it below:
Using paper towels, absorb as much of the urine as you are able.
Then, using a 3 to 1 ratio, mix up vinegar into a container of water and completely saterate the urine spot with it.
The absorb again on the area with paper towels.
The wait for it to completely dry.
After it is fully dried, sprinkle with a generous amount of baking soda.
Following that, mix a cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with a tablespoon of dishwashing detergent and carefully drip over the baking soda.
Now, using a small brush, work the baking soda into the stain
Wait again for it to dry.
And finally, vacuum.
If there is still any lingering odor or stain remaining, repeat.
