The title sounds obvious, right? Yet, there are a bewildering variety of choices available. From holistic to premium, even super premium, and of course, organic.

While some dog owners buy the good 'ole food from a can from stores, the recent dog food recall has made dog owners more wary of what they buy for their pets.

So, which dog food is best? Personally, I would recommend either organic, super premium, or premium. Also dehydrated dog foods offer excellent nutritional value, due to increased vitamins, minerals and enzymes remaining and for easy storrage.

Organic dog food gives human-grade ingredients, without all the additives and preservatives.

Another kind is called holistic, which treats the whole body of your pet. They are completely natural, with no chemicals.

Premium dog foods use higher standards than the usual economy store bought variety. Not only are the ingredients of a higher quality, but the food is easier to digest. Therefore, increased nutrition is gained, so your dog does not need as much food.

Super premium dog food is a step up again in quality. With what is called " human-grade" food. That is, the processing is similar to that which is done for human food consumption.

Dehydrated dog food offers offers an excellent alternative, but should be used as variety, not a long term food solution. And food choice is good for dogs, just as with people. Therefore, your dog's system won't become sensitive to certain foods, which can cause allergies. An allergy is quite common in many dogs, so minimizing them is very important.

The best kind of food for your dog is a personal thing. Every dog is different, just like with his or her owner. What should be best is try various kinds and see which they enjoy most and respond to the best in terms of health.

However, bulk dog food all natural, is probably the best option, for health and the price. For when you buy in bulk and its natural your getting the best for your dog's health at the best price.

Homemade is a good option too. Although nutrients are not in the precise amounts like in manufactured food, it is obviously very natural and wholesome and healthy to include food prepared in this way.

And of course, you can include fresh raw vegetables. All vegetables need to be chopped very fine, incidently, if you choose to give them to your dog.

There are tons of recipes available for homemade dog food. Usually, uncooked meats are also suggested. And all meats can be used in this way. Beef, lamb, fish, chicken, turkey, venison, elk, bufflo, even rabbit or goat.

Of course, free range animals are the best source since they are leanest and have less contaminants.

All meat of this kind will have plenty of protien and bones. And larger bones for gnawing on, the dog should enjoy.

Puppies can also be fed the same, just on a more selective basis. The food needs to be moist too, for the puppy's young sensitive stomach.

A good balance between commercial made and homemade dog food could be ideal for your dog's wellness.

Here are some of the major dog food companies: Hill's Science Diet Pet Food, Iams, Kibbles 'N Bits, the Purvina line of products, Friskies, Kit 'N Kaboodle, Come 'N Get It, Fancy Feast, Might Dog, Chef's Blend, Seba, Whiskas, Pedigree, Advance, Nutro and Innova.

Probably the most popular of these brands are, nutro, pedigree, iams, innova, and hills science diet pet food.

And these brands are a viable option. At least on a part time basis. But remember, the dog's diet is critical to its overall good health. And getting food of as high a quality as possibly is very important. Food which is safe, the healthiest and pure.

Treats are always welcomed by your dog too. And there are many manufactured foods that provide lots of choice in the way of treats.
